Turn a campsite idea into a responsible plan by checking overnight-use limits, fire safety, access, water, and waste.
Verify camping is allowed
Ask the county and any property association about tent and RV stays, annual duration limits, temporary structures, sanitation, address requirements, and whether a building permit must already be active.
Check the route before the campsite
Legal access, road ownership, grades, washouts, gates, mud, snow, and vehicle clearance determine whether you can arrive safely. Inspect access in conditions similar to when you expect to visit.
Leave a lighter footprint
Use lawful waste disposal, store water safely, prevent food from attracting wildlife, observe burn bans, protect vegetation, and pack out trash. A responsible campsite preserves the land and neighboring properties.
Equip for remoteness
Carry navigation, first aid, weather layers, fire suppression, communications backup, tire repair, extra water, and an exit plan. Tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return.
